Benefits of Training Periods

Learn about the benefits of training periods.

Ultimately, Training Periods are an organizational system for your assignments. By associating a series of assignments with a Training Period, you will ensure that learners do not get assigned the same course more than once. Additionally, this categorization is not necessarily tied to a specific time period. We recommend that Training Periods are used for a single year, however they can be active within whatever period of time your team needs.

With this, administrators have more control over what assignments learners receive and when.

The golden rule to remember when it comes to Training Periods is:

A learner’s status (complete, in progress, past due, etc.) of a single course is consistent throughout all assignments within one Training Period. A learner’s status of a single course will start from the beginning if assigned in separate Training Periods.

Due Date

A Due Date can be adjusted at any point as long as the assignment is still active and not Archived.

Archive Date

When creating an assignment, you will now need to specify an Archive Date which will essentially deactivate and shut down that assignment. Learners will no longer be able to make any progress, but they will still be able to review their courses if it was completed. Administrators will no longer be able to add learners or make any edits to the assignment.

By setting this Archive Date upon creation, assignments will no longer be sitting in a limbo state long past the due date and no one making progress. This will also provide more concise reporting when looking for active assignments data.
