Deactivate an Assignment
Learn how to deactivate an assignment.
Before deactivating an assignment, it is important to first understand the different assignment statuses and what that means for learners. The two states to focus on around deactivation are Closed and Archived.
Closed Assignments will not accept new learners, but existing learners can continue through and complete their courses. Archived Assignments will not accept new learners, and all learners will not be able to make progress in their courses.
Close an Active Assignment:
- Click Assignments in the left navigation to see the Manage Assignments page
- Click on the assignment you want to deactivate
- Click the Edit Assignment button in the top left
- Scroll down to the Scheduling section
- For Quick Assignments, you cannot deactivate
- For Automated Assignments, from the Manage Assignments Page, click on More Actions >Stop Automation
No new learners can be added, but the existing learners can continue to make progress.
Archive an Active Assignment:
- Click Assignments in the left navigation to see the Manage Assignments page
- Click on the assignment you want to deactivate
- Click the More Actions button in the top left
- Click the Archive Assignment button from the dropdown
- Click Archive on the confirmation message that appears
- When the assignment transitions to the archived status, it will automatically be filtered out of the Manage Assignments page, but you can find it by adjusting the Assignment Status filter to include Archived assignments
- No new learners can be added and existing learners cannot continue progress on any incomplete courses
Note: When archiving assignments, if your assignment for a Part 1 course includes Part 2 to be auto assigned after Part 1 is completed, you need to archive the assignment Parts 1 and 2 separately for the assignment to be fully archived. Archiving Part 1 does not automatically archive the attached Part 2. You will find the Part 2 assignment under “Follow-Up Assignments” as part of the line entry for Part 1.
1. Click Assignments on the left navigation
2. If the assignment has a Part 2, click on the Follow-Up Assignments on the far right of the tile.
3. Click into the Part 2 component, and click Archive Assignment on the top right.
