Course Description

Diversity and Inclusion in the Modern Workplace provides employees with an overview of core diversity concepts, including how identity, power, privilege and communication contribute to differences; steps to take as a diversity ally; and ways to communicate respectfully. It uses an interactive story told through videos to help reinforce concepts and includes scenarios for learners to respond to and practice what they learn.

 

Note: This course can be assigned as the full course: Diversity: Inclusion in the Modern Workplace or as individual modules. Please only assign the full course or individual modules

Learning Objectives​​​​

Module 1: Introduction
This module introduces learners to the benefits of diversity training. It explains how diverse backgrounds can lead to different experiences in the workplace, and how a deeper understanding of diversity can help us connect with others.

Module 2: Identity/ies
This module introduces learners to the concept of identity, including how identity can change over time or in different contexts. It also explores how people with diverse identities may use strategies to reduce the likelihood of discrimination or exclusion, and what that means for making diverse connections.

Module 3: Power
This module introduces the concepts of power and inequity. It explores the historical and structural systems that exist and how they create power and inequities. It also gives guidance on understanding one’s own power and how to be an ally to others.

Module 4: Privilege 
This module explains the concept of privilege and how unearned privileges contribute to inequities. It also explores stereotypes and how they can limit opportunities and diversity. Finally, it gives concrete ways to use privilege to help others and to avoid stereotypes.

This module explores actions individuals can take to help ensure all their colleagues feel included. It provides communication strategies for effective, respectful engagement with others, along with ways to be a diversity ally.
